How to Get the Most from Your Card Trade-In in Florida
Before you walk into any shop, read this. The difference between a good and bad trade-in offer often comes down to timing, presentation, and where you go.
Florida has dozens of card shops, and buylist prices vary dramatically between them. A card worth $100 on TCGPlayer might get you $30 at one shop and $65 at another — on the same day. Here's how to maximize what you walk away with.
1. Sort Before You Walk In
Nothing slows down a trade-in — or lowers the offer — like a disorganized binder. Shops pay by the hour for staff time. If you make it easy to evaluate your collection (sorted by set, with higher-value cards separated), you get a faster and often better offer. Consider sleeving rares and holos.
2. Know Your Cards' Current Market Value
Check TCGPlayer's low (not market) for each card you're selling. Market price reflects recent sales; low reflects what the cheapest listed copy is. Shops typically pay 40–60% of low for staples and 20–40% for bulk. If a shop offers you 25% of TCGPlayer low on a card with high liquidity (e.g., a Modern staple), push back.
3. Ask About Store Credit vs. Cash
Most shops offer a 20–30% bonus if you take store credit instead of cash. If you're planning to buy from that shop anyway, this is free money. Manna Kingdom offers store credit bonuses on all trade-ins — and the credit never expires.
4. Timing Matters
Don't sell right before a major set release — new products often depress singles prices as supply floods the market. Similarly, selling Legacy/Vintage staples in a downswing is suboptimal. If you can hold for 2–3 months, sometimes you double your offer.
5. Get Multiple Quotes
No reputable shop will be offended if you say you're getting a few quotes. Walk in, get a written offer, take photos, and compare. The best shops know their buylist is competitive and won't chase you out the door.
